Gentle Oblivion: Martin Hampton

Venue: The Great North Museum
Dates: Sunday 21st  – Sunday 28th March
Time: Sundays 2pm – 5pm | Weekdays 10am – 5pm

Can loss of memory be a blessing or does dementia have to be hell?

Commissioned by NLFF and Tyneside Cinema, broadcast documentary filmmaker Martin Hampton took this question as the basis for five months of extensive research here and in France.  He has created an installation in which three very different films interact to suggest an alternative way of thinking about dementia.

Shown together, the films aim to open up a space for discourse which Hampton, who sees the installation as a work in progress, hopes will inform the future direction of the project. You can meet Martin, see his work in progress and read about his process online every day this week.

There is a talk to support this exhibition on Tuesday 23rd March, Age: The Last Adventure
To book a space call NLFF on 0191 231 4066.

If you would like to meet Martin in an informal setting he will be in the exhibition Sunday to Monday 2-5pm.

Martin has directed films for a range or platforms including Microsoft Babies, eight 3 Minute Wonders for Yipp Films, described by the Independent as a “mini masterpiece”.
