Greetings from NLFF Blogland!

Greetings from NLFF Blogland! This is my fourth day living in Newcastle. I cannot wait to explore my new surroundings, but not before the upcoming NLFF which begins tomorrow – for now I can only get familiar with the route onthe Number 1 bus from where I'm staying to the Tyneside (and the walk to the closest Morrison's too). Before I go on, let's tip our hats to Tom, Melanie, Jill, Anna, Andrew, Simon, Nicky, our guest programmers Jason, Mariayah, Sonali, Hal and Christo, and of course Festival founders Mark and Patrick as they have worked hard to change the identity of the Festival, program it, and organise it.
I admit it feels a bit odd to arrive here and not be completely caught up in the mostly exciting, occasionally nutty whirlwind that (with the aid ofcaffeine, pastries and chocolate, especially when all combined) provides much of the energy for the upcoming week. Of course, having lots of terrific films, lots of organisation and being prepared for anything that veers off track (and that'll surely happen) goes a heckuva long way, too. I myself will rely a bit more on the films and organisation this time around (no problems there, though I'll make sure there's some chocolate on hand) and look forward to meeting everyone from our supporters to the festivalgoers to our great volunteers. (What a great way to immerse myself into life in Newcastle.) The 2008 Northern Lights Film Festival is the first chapter of our new direction that I look forward to promoting in the NorthEast and to the worldwide film community.
So we hope to see you next week at the Tyneside, the Side or Star and Shadow. Take a chance, surprise yourself, take part in the post-screening discussions, immerse yourself in another culture... see you at the 2008 NLFF!
