Opening Gala: How to Get Rid of Others 18 Hvordan vi slipper af med de andre UK Premiere
Friday 7 December, 20.30
Dirs. Anders Rønnow Klarlund. Denmark 2007. 94 mins. In Danish with English subtitles. Feature Film.
We’re thrilled to open the festival with the UK premiere of one of the most talked about European films of the year, which has stunned audiences at festivals across the world.
Having caused a furore in a Europe that is struggling to reconcile itself against unprecedented levels of immigration and social change, this searing black comedy is set in a dystopian Denmark in the not too distant future.
Faced with growing unease and economic pressure, the government introduces the ‘New Copenhagen Criteria’, a policy aimed at securing the nation’s survival. Citizens who fail to meet the criteria - those that have received more from society than they have contributed - are to be eliminated.
With Soren Pilmark (King’s Game) as Major Christian Andersson, the trigger-happy Judge, Jury and Executioner, this pitch black comedy is not to be missed.
