Africa United 15 UK Premiere
Saturday 8 December, 14.25
Dir. Olaf de Fleur Johannesson. Iceland 2005. 80 mins. In English and Icelandic with English subtitles. Documentary.
A funny and decidedly offbeat documentary about cultural diversity, self-belief and soccer in a (very) cold climate. Zico is a Moroccan immigrant living in Iceland with aspirations to create a new life and make a successful business.
However, ten years on Zico’s business has failed, and needing a new focus, he pours all of his energy and entrepreneurship into trying to mould an unlikely and hilariously explosive bunch of personalities from Nigeria, Colombia, Serbia, Kosovo, Gambia and Guinea into ‘Africa United’.
A real crowd-pleaser, full of tantrums and tears and a nail-biting, must-win climax, you don’t even have to be interested in football to fall for these boys and their against-all-odds story.
