There have been a few dramas and documentaries looking at corporate and social responsibility, but there are many smaller films that look at the personal stories behind the machine. A Decent Factory is one of these films. This rich documentary explores the cultural and moral dilemmas posed by Nokia as it sources supplies from countries where although costs are lower, worker’s rights might not be necessarily adhered to.

After three years of research and filming director Thomas Balmès follows two European women – a Finnish Nokia employee and a British consultant – to China where they audit the factory of a Nokia supplier. This compelling film illustrates the importance we have as consumers of being aware of what we buy, and maybe most importantly, who we buy it from.
