Reel Life
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.
Documentary films are now a regular staple in the filmgoers diet. Each year sees the release of a film with a real life story or issue at its heart that tells as magical or compelling a tale as a work of fiction. Whilst documentaries like Fahrenheit 9/11, Grizzly Man and An Inconvenient Truth storm box office charts, there are also many more international films lining up which don’t attain a wide release.
Many fantastic documentary filmmakers work in the North East, including Patrick Collerton (director of The Boy Whose Skin fell Off and co-founder of this festival) and Amber Films, the Newcastle-based film & photography collective. As an NLFF tribute to documentaries we’re screening a short season of Danish documentaries, and there’s the chance to see the Amber collective’s latest film Shooting Magpies.
Screenings will take place at Side Cinema, Newcastle, alongside a chance to take part in discussions about what you watch.
