Throughout the festival we’ll be showing a selection of especially selected short films from across the UK and Northern Europe in the Tyneside Cinema’s Digital Lounge...for FREE! The Suburban Train (Elektryczka)

Director: Maciej Cuske, Documentary, UK, 17 minutes 53 seconds, 2005, Russian with English subtitles.

The documentary is like a journey through Russian society. The wide spectrum of people, situations, behaviours. Funny, witty, refreshing.

Director Maciej Cuske was born in 1972 in Poland; graduated in 2004 from Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing in Warsaw, documentary course. The author of short independent movies. Most important works: Kuracja (Treatment, documentary), Antykwariat (Bookstore, The Bronze Award at Cracov Film Festival 2005), Cisza (Silence).

Tomorrow (Jutro)

Director: Katarzyna Agopsowicz, Poland, 2005.

Old ladies are sitting on some benches, drunkards on others, men in suits holding cases are rushing for work, crows caw... It is an individual artistic reflection on apparently uninteresting, common people. The heroes of the story involved into the rhythm of every day activities in their own way, closed in one frame, make a picture which has a bitter taste of passing away. This film study has been made under the artistic patronage of Professor Jerzy Kucia.

Director Katarzyna Agopsowicz was born in 1979, in Rzeszow. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow at the Graphics Faculty. In 2005 she graduated at the Animation Film Studio of professor Jerzy Kucia. "Tomorrow" is her diploma animation.
