Lights in the Dusk 12 Laitakaupungin Valot Regional Premiere
Thursday 23rd November, 6.10pm (T)
Director: Aki Kaurismäki, Feature, 78mins, Finland, Germany & France, 2006, Finnish and Russian with English subtitles.
You lucky people! We’re extremely thrilled to be able to screen for you Aki’s latest feature and the final film in his trilogy of downbeat souls, Lights In The Dusk. Having been screened only at the London Film Festival prior to Northern Lights, this is a major coup for North East filmlovers.
Shy nightwatchman Koistinen works for a security firm as a guard. Teased by his colleagues, who think he doesn’t like women because of his shy personality, his quiet life changes when he meets blonde bombshell Mirja, who seems to fall for his slightly old fashioned manner. However, Mirja is in the employ of shady businessman Lindholm, who wants to set Koistinen up as the fall guy for a heist...
Kaurismäki’s delightfully delicate fable charts Koistinen’s descent into an unforeseen nightmare of deceit and violence whilst maintaining a characteristically low-key blend of compassion and mordant humour. Don’t miss it.
