The films of Aki Kaurismäki

Aki Kaurismäki is one of the world’s most distinctive independent filmmakers. Responsible for unleashing the phenomenon that is the Leningrad Cowboys upon the world, he’s made almost 30 films in a career spanning almost 30 years. Capable of making movies with their own unique, and distinctive voice, and yet able to convey acres of emotion with just a few seconds of film and little dialogue, he and his brother Mika are between them responsible for a fifth of the Finnish film industry’s output since the early 1980s.
Key titles include Take Care Of Your Scarf Tatiana, Juha, and Leningrad Cowboys Go America. Not to mention the three films in his self-dubbed ‘loser trilogy’, Drifting Clouds, The Man Without A Past and his brilliant new film Lights In The Dusk. All three films in the trilogy touch on their own themes: unemployment in Drifting Clouds, homelessness in The Man Without A Past, and loneliness in Lights In The Dusk.
Enjoy this chance to see all of them in one fell swoop...
