This collection of thirteen 10-minute films was made to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Polish Solidarity movement. This venture is the brainchild of director Andrzej Wajda, who asked 13 pioneers of Polish cinema to make short films about the events of August 1980, where Polish workers went on strike across the country and began a hard-fought campaign for workers’ rights.
Ranging from animation to comedy, each film’s plot and genre was up to the filmmakers, and the end results beautifully illustrate a phenomenon that succeeded in uniting 10 million Poles across the social divide.
The screening on Wednesday 22nd November will include a presentation by director Feliks Falk, who will be in conversation with writer and Polish socio-political expert Joanna Hanson.
