MY NIKIFOR (12A) Saturday 19th November, 4:45pm, Tyneside Cinema This extraordinary tale of creativity and the strength of the human spirit is based upon the amazing life of artist Epifan Drowniak. Physically and mentally disabled, Epifan made over 40,000 paintings, which he peddled to the patrons of the spa buildings in his home town of Krynice, southern Poland. We take up the tale as Nikifor is discovered in 1960 by another painter, Marian Wlosinski, after walking into Wlosinski’s studio and helping himself to his paint. As he begins to realise the extent of Nikifor’s unfettered genius, the pair become firm friends, and Nikifor’s talent is nurtured to national acclaim… This subtle, engrossing tale features a brilliant portrayal at its heart from established character actress Krystyna Feldman in the lead and is a richly rewarding look into what drove this inspiring and unique character. Winner of the coveted Crystal Globe Director: Krzysztof Krauze / Feature / Polish with English subtitles |
