Dagur Kari broke through in 2004 with his award-winning debut feature film Noi Albinoi. Dark Horse is his second feature – a downbeat comedy and luscious visual delight – and every bit as impressive as his first film. Daniel is a charming slacker working as an occasional bespoke graffiti artist around the streets of Copenhagen. When he falls in love with the girl at the local bakery, he realises that his anarchic attitude to living is not going to convince her to go out with him. So off Daniel goes on a journey of self-discovery taking his odd-ball friends with him and tries to work out what he wants in life apart from being able to listen to good music on his battered walkman.

(Kari’s band, Slowblow provide the entire soundtrack to the film, as they do in Noi Albinoi… see the band perform live in Screaming Masterpiece too). Kari himself said that he wanted to make a film that looked like an episode of Seinfeld directed by Krzysztof Kiéslowki (Three Colours Trilogy) and he pretty much pulls it off, creating an atmospheric, episodic story that keeps you chuckling all along the way.
