AFTERMATH (15) Friday 18th November, 2:15pm, Tyneside Cinema An outstanding tear-jerking directorial debut from multi-award winning actress Paprika Steen (Open Hearts, Festen), Aftermath is the story of Britt and Claes who lose their daughter in a road accident. Estranged by grief, each tries to deal with their sorrow in different ways: Britt throws herself into her career as a social worker, taking solace from other people’s misfortune, while Claes, finds little relief in talking about his daughter’s death in the belief that no-one understands how he feels. Stylish in its delivery and script (from the writer of In Your Hands, NLFF 2004), this film had the seasoned film community at the Cannes Film Festival in tears when it was first screened. (It’s true we were there). Bring tissues you have been warned. Audience Award Winner Director: Paprika Steen / Feature / Danish with English subtitles |
