Short Change?
Friday 19 November, 1.00pm, Miners Institute, Westgate Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne

A panel of filmmakers describe how they got their short films funded and made and debate the purpose and point of it all in the first place; are they essential training for features? Invaluable Calling Cards? A vital form in their own right, or a self-serving dead-end? Panellists include directors Richard Fenwick, Duane Hopkins and Jules Williamson, film funder Tom Harvey, producer Chris Taylor and exhibitor Damian Spandley.
Delegates must book in advance. Tickets £2.00 / £1.00 concessions. FREE to Summit Delegates.

Time For Bed
Saturday 21 Nov,
Tyneside Cinema

Following on from the Digital Film Challenge in 2003, this year, Northern Lights throws down the creative gauntlet to six teams of directors, actors, cinematographers, and editors from across Northern Europe to make six sketch films in six hours set in suites in the gorgeous Hilton NewcastleGateshead. Each film takes as its departure point the same script by Kerri Hayden in which two people go to bed together for the first time, the rest is then open to interpretation by each production team.

All six Time For Bed films will be premiered at the Summit Wrap party on Saturday 20th November. The films will also be screened for the public on Monday 22nd November in the Mike Figgis Digital Lounge at Tyneside Cinema.

The Script Factory Story Workshop
Sunday 21 November, 1.00pm, Miners Institute, Westgate Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Lucy Scher leads a session for producers, developers and screenwriters. Development is the sector of the industry that is least defined; the jobs are not advertised, there is no clear training or career structure, there are scant and vague definitions about useful documents that might exist in this area. And yet “development” is hugely important and relevant to everyone involved in the script.

The Script Factory defines development as being the process of finding out what is meaningful to the writer and the tools to use that will help the writer to make that meaningful to the audience. This workshop explores story types, audience expectations and how a good understanding of both will enable us to develop better scripts.
Tickets £4.00 / £2.00 concessions. FREE to Summit Delegates.
