The Edukators

Opening Night Gala Screening

The Edukators (15)
Die Fetten Jahre Sind Vorbei
Thursday 18 November, 7.45pm, Tyneside Cinema
Tuesday 23 November, 8.00pm, UGC (Not Gala screening)

Part of the official selection at Cannes Film Festival this year, The Edukators is the second feature by award-winning director Hans Weingarten and stars Daniel Bruhl, the gorgeous lead from the box-office hit Good Bye Lenin! Jan and Peter are ‘The Edukators’, a duo who break into rich people’s houses to intimidate them, not by stealing material goods but by bringing chaos to their perfect lives; leaving messages for the owners (like ‘Your Days of Plenty are Numbered’) and piling their expensive furniture in the middle of their rooms. One night, Jan and Peter’s girlfriend Jule break into the home of one particularly fat cat. The break-in goes awry when the homeowner discovers them. In a panic they kidnap him and run off to the country but they have no clue as to what to do with him…

An inspiring, very funny film starring an incredibly talented cast, The Edukators is guaranteed to teach you a thing or two…
Dir: Hans Weingarten, Germany 2004, 127 mins, Feature Film, Subtitled.

The Edukators is scheduled for release in Spring 2005.

Dear Frankie

Closing Night Gala Screening

Dear Frankie (12A)
Thursday 25 November, 8.30pm, Tyneside Cinema

A glorious debut from first time feature director Shona Auerbach and the popular hit at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival. This is the story of deaf nine-year-old Frankie and his mum Lizzie (the brilliant Emily Mortimer) who have been on the move ever since Frankie can remember. Lizzie wants to protect her son from the truth that they've run away from his father and invents a story that he’s away at sea on the HMS Accra. Every few weeks, Lizzie writes Frankie a make-believe letter from his father, telling of his adventures in exotic lands. Frankie tracks the ship's progress around the globe. One day he discovers that the Accra is due to dock in their town and Lizzie must choose between telling Frankie the truth or finding someone to play Frankie's father for just one day. A brilliant film with magnificent performances from the entire cast.
Dir: Shona Auerbach, UK 2004, 105 mins. Feature Film.

Subtitled for the deaf and hard of hearing. BSL interpreters onsite.

Dear Frankie is scheduled for UK release in Spring 2005.
