Sånger Från Andra Våningen
Friday 19 November, 6.10pm, Tyneside Cinema

It’s the end of the world as we know it. This amazing tale of millennium-eve dystopia is a story about the human need for love and companionship, confusion, and most of all, our inherent vulnerability. Stunningly staged and filmed, rammed with ideas and daring visions, the film is a dark, funny and disturbing poem on the human condition with a beautiful operatic score by none other than ABBA’s Benny Andersson. Ravishing, surreal and brilliant, this is quite unlike any other film you will have encountered.
Dir: Roy Andersson, Sweden 2000, 98 mins, Feature Film, Subtitled.

This screening has an introduction by Film Historian Roger Mitchell, as part of the Tyneside Cinema’s sell-out Bergman And Beyond course.

Lukas Moodysson is now established as an international feature filmmaker of the highest order and we’ve brought this box-office hit back as a Northern Lights Classic. Elisabeth is an ordinary housewife who tires of her bullying husband, so she packs her bags, takes her children and goes to live with her brother, Goran in his hippy commune. When Elisabeth arrives with her children she finds a chaotic house filled with political discussion, free sex, and red wine. Very funny, very poignant, and very lovely.
Dir: Lukas Moodysson, Sweden 2000, 106 mins, Feature Film, Subtitled.

The original Danish TV version of the acclaimed U.S. TV series Kingdom Hospital was the brainchild of Dogme enfant–terrible Lars Von Trier. The Kingdom Hospital in Copenhagen is haunted, built on an ancient marshland. When consultant neurosurgeon Stig Helmer returns from Haiti, he immediately runs into problems. But his possible prosecution for a medical mess up and his colleague trying to get him married off is nothing compared to the demons and spirits that are about to be unleashed…
Tickets: £5.00 / £4.00 concessions
Dir: Ella Lemhagen, Sweden 2003, 90 mins, Feature Film, Subtitled.
