Welcome to the first-ever
Northern Lights Film Festival website!
Screenings at Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle, and the University of Teesside, Middlesbrough.
Northern Lights is set to illuminate the north east of England as the home for international film. During the Festival, audiences will be able to see some of the most exciting and innovative new movies from the UK, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
Northern Lights Film Festival incorporates the adrenaline-fuelled short film contest known as the Tyne v Tallinn Digital Film Challenge. In the Challenge, three Geordie directors travel to Estonia to make three dramas and three Estonian directors come to Newcastlegateshead to make three films with our local cast and crew.
As the Festival kicks off so does the filming period. They have only twelve days from start to finish. At the culmination of the festival these courageous souls (view their pictures) show their films to you at the Festival Gala and invite you to choose your favourite in a nail-biting finale to the whole festival.
On the way we bring you masterclasses and debate, screenings and workshops as the European Film community descends on the North East. So prepare to be entertained and illuminated as we take you through the adventures in film known as the Northern Lights Film Festival 2003.
Each year Tyneside will be twinned with another European or Scandinavian city to produce more new short films for future Northern Lights Film Festivals.
